New Material Development

Over the years many industries have embraced 3D printing and adopted it as a critical part of their R&D and new product development. One of the major hindrances to this lies in the scarcity of existing materials. Innovative and unique, Intech DMLS is making the cutting edge difference in advancement of new material development in this industry. New material development is one of the forefront activities at Intech DMLS. The backbone of material development at INTECH DMLS is investigating the structure and properties at the Micron and Nano scale to translate the potential of such materials into real applications. Our new powder development and validation requires extensive work correlating process parameters such as, the scanning speed and laser power to formation of molten weld pool and solidification rate that decides the evolution of micro-structure and phases.

The multitude of such variables associated with the process and their respective influence on final part characteristics is what we understand and control. The determination of this profile is the key to making accurate predictions of the mechanical properties of the finished piece. This is then extensively tested to ensure qualification and repetition. We work through collaboration with specialised research institutes, powder manufacturers, customers and end users. These collaborations aim to unlock the value inherent in the unique properties of the materials. We have a successful track record of applying a commercial approach to new technology across our range of materials.
